Re: Knowing where and how hard to tap...

There was a man whose car engine failed.
He had it towed it to one car garage after another, but none of them could figure out what was wrong or how to fix the engine.
Then he took it to an old car mechanic who he heard had been fixing cars since he was a youngster.
The old mechanic carried a large bag of tools with him, and he inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom. The car owner watched this man anxiously, hoping he would know what to do.
After looking things over, the old mechanic reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer.
He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!
The mechanic handed the car owner a bill for one thousand dollars.
"What?!" the owner exclaimed. "You hardly did anything!"
He demanded the old man write him up an itemized bill to explain how he could possibly charge him so much.
The mechanic handed him a bill that read:
Tapping with a hammer ................................. $20
Knowing where and how hard to tap ............. $980
