Note from Mary...
Spring is here, and this past Saturday, my husband and I headed over to a motorcycle shop to get a new battery for my motorcycle and a gasket watchamacall-it thing for his.
The forecast for Sunday was to be a 70-80 degree day, and we wanted to be ready!
While we were waiting for my new battery, the salesman came over to me and said, "Ya know, when you are out there riding on a beautiful new bike, you can't help but be really happy. Did you know that you make more money when you are happy? Don't you think you'd be really happy on one of our new motorcycles sitting here in our showroom. Did you see our sign? It's at zero interest right now!"
I told him I'd heard a lot of sales pitches before, but that one was right up there with the best I'd ever heard. And so he continued to shine his light and keep me entertained with his own special blend of "make a difference" quotes from recognizable authors and Quantum Field Theory expertise!
And then I heard that quiet little voice in my head - my IGS as I like to call it (Inner Guidance System) - saying, "Wow, what a difference he is making with his joy and light ...you need to acknowledge that in him and give him your 'I Make A Difference' wristbands!" And so I did.
I told him he was a really bright light in the world and with his positive attitude and best-ever sales pitches, he would be making a difference in lots of people's lives. I asked him if he would accept my "I Make A Difference" wristband ...and with that deer caught in the headlights look, he finally found his words and said, "Yes!"
I briefly told him the Acknowledgment Ceremony story and then gave him two more wristbands to pass it on. He said he already had someone in mind. I told him that if he wanted to give more than two, he could get them at the website inside the wristband.
On Sunday, we went for a beautiful bike ride throughout our area. My husband asked me on the way home if I wanted to stop by the new police station in our little town and see if they were moved in yet.
We pulled in to see their wonderful new building, and as we were sitting there oooing and ahhhing at their big beautiful new space, a police officer drove in. He stopped, rolled down his window and ask if he could help us.
I told him we were just stopping by to see if they were moved in yet. He said, "We sure are, do you want to come in and I'll give you a tour?" I said, "You'd do that just for the two of us?" and he said, "Sure."
It was a wonderful tour. He was so excited and proud to be in this new facility, and I found myself very moved by his passion and love for being a police officer.
And so I pulled off the three wristbands from my arm, and meeting his eyes I thanked him for the special tour and the difference he's making in the lives of so many to make sure we are all safe. He accepted and once again I could tell that being acknowledged was not something that he was used to receiving. It chokes me up, in a good way, every time.
Reaching out...
