Hi Mr. Schlatter,
My name is Delaney and I go to CHS. I'm not sure if you remember me but you were substituting for Mrs. Gustavson one day and I went in to ask her questions but ended up asking you them. While we were talking you gave me your book, Gifts by the Side of the Road. I finished it this evening.
Every single story in this book inspired me in some way. But my absolute favorite story was on page 184, 'I dreamed a dream'.
I have done so many things that I regret. But after finishing this book, I really thought about what I could bring to the world. And well, the one thing that I have always wanted to do is help foster children. And since I can't be a mother to them, I have decided that I want to do like a big sister program. I have made it so much farther than I ever could before.
Your book has really made me want to pursue what I want to do with my life. So I guess what I'm trying to say, is thank you. You have really, really changed my life. And without your inspiration, I would still be sitting in my room feeling sorry for myself.
