I was in a classroom with one student... never had I sensed such sadness.
"What is wrong, my friend?" I asked.
"I am so depressed because I am so angry," he replied.
"Who are you mad at?" I inquired.
"MYSELF." He answered, "I have made so many mistakes and let so many people down, I can hardly bare it. I have squandered opportunities, broken promises and engaged in countless selfish acts.”
"Oh come now, you can’t be as bad all that!" I said.
"Oh, I have done some good and helped a few folks, but nowhere near as many as I could have, if I hadn’t been so messed up," he answered.
Suddenly I awoke with a strong sense of worry and concern for this lad.
How could he walk into tomorrow carrying such heavy loads of guilt and regret? And then I started to wonder how many others were like him, fully aware of their faults but totally ignorant of their virtues. What could I say or do to help such people?
