Story of the Week: Unwisely Given

Note from Jack: For students to succeed, they must be willing to learn from their teachers. However, as a society, we must be dedicated to giving them teachers that will show them the stars and not the mud. As you well know, much of our popular culture teaches self-destructive behavior. This is the story of one such victim.

An excerpt from Gifts by the Side of the Road

This was not the first time I saw her crying as she sat off by herself. In today's world where the media is constantly lying to young people about many things, no lie creates as much misery as the lie being told about sex.

For centuries, society taught us that a sexual union was to symbolize commitment and was reserved for marriage. Granted, many people have fallen short of that goal, but the ideal created positive caution and often caused young people to put off taking that "one big step" until it was right.

Studies have shown that the younger a person is when they have their first sexual encounter, the more certain it is that sex will control their lives and not be the wonderful experience that they will choose to add to life later on.

The young lady of whom I spoke in the beginning of the story had been deceived into thinking that sex was love, and she, being human and wanting love, had freely given her sexual favors to any boy who desired them. This had led to the most insulting namecalling anyone had ever experienced. She had been used and abused by a very large number of boys who had heard how willing she was.

After having their "fun," they would then act like they didn't even know her.

I asked her why she had let so many boys take advantage of her.

"They're my friends," came the reply, "and I don't want to hurt their feelings."

"They're your friends?" I questioned. "What if one of your girlfriends came by and suggested going to the mall, and you agreed?

Now suppose you walked into a fashion shop and there was a sweater she liked. So she reached into your purse and took your money and bought it and then suggested you go to lunch. After lunch, she then reached into your purse again for your money. At that point you'd grab her hand and say, 'Stop! You've got my money.'
