Note from Mary...
As you may know, this week is both Teacher Appreciation Week and Nurses Appreciation Week; and coming right up after this is appreciation days and weeks for many of our other unsung heroes: Police & Dispatchers, EMS & Firefighters and Armed Forces.
What are you doing about this? Anything? Have you acknowledged anyone today? ...lately?
I intend to sound like a broken record this year, because we simply MUST step up as ordinary individuals who can, in fact, create extraordinary impact in people's lives.
If you are down, out, blue, sad, depressed or disappointed in life or with others ... seriously ... LIFE is waiting on YOU to step more fully into your greatness.
Disappointment is a totally useless emotion, as is shame.
Disappointment is hurtful when you use it on others ... it's just a way to shame and guilt others by venting your upset with them and showing your need to control them. It serves no positive purpose.
When you direct your disappointment at yourself, it's just another great way to beat yourself up so you are totally incapacitated. It serves no positive purpose.
Disappointment in and of itself is simply a lack in faith. So stop using it to keep yourself or anyone else down. You can be concerned, you can realize you have more work to do, you can be affirmative:
"I have confidence in your God-given gifts, talents and abilities to learn from this and be successful the next time."
Now THAT's what I'm talking about!
The greatest cure in the world is to get OUT of your critical self, and start finding someone to say something appreciative to ... start with acknowledgment.
Listen to your IGS - Inner Guidance System - and just do it! You can turn a crappy day into a great day in 30 seconds or less ... and I'm just talking about your day... not to mention you may just save someone else's life!!!!
What you may not know...
...is that just this past week on the evening news they stated that we have an alarming crisis in the military like never before.
That there is a suicide attempt somewhere in the military every 18 hours!
Speaking of the state of the mind, our societies generational legacies of pain and need to escape social emotional woundedness...
What you may not know... is NBC news reported that recent research that questioned 47,000 students nationwide shows tobacco use is down, and so is alcohol abuse.
Binge drinking among High School Seniors is down:
in 1981 it was at 41% - 2011 is at 22%...
But that ...marijuana use among teenagers is at the highest rate in 30 years.
1-in-15 High School Seniors report using marijuana and emotionally "checking out" daily.
Have you watched any Reality TV lately? If you are an avid fan or simply catch the headlines being created by some of these shows, then you know that we've got more work to do on how we treat each other in this society.
