A Note from Mary...

Do you remember the last five presentations that you sat through? Did any of them include a Power Point deck filled with bullet points? Can you talk about them individually to any degree of detail? I can't.

So, who gave the great presentations? Mostly leaders - thought leaders, CEOs, marketing gurus and other people who are considered to be at the top of their game. The endless screens of bullet points came from everyone else. I think the leaders became leaders by compelling others to follow - they told a good story. That's the value of storytelling in business. It separates the leaders from the followers. Winners can capture our hearts and minds with the ability to tell compelling stories about the information that is important. They do it by connecting our right brain with our left, by illustrating the logic of their argument with a memorable story.

I'm writing to you today to give you Jack Schlatter's "The Magic Pebbles" story. It is just one of many memorable stories you can use from Gifts by the Side of the Road that have the kind of simple, yet profound, meaning that sticks with your audience as life offers ever unfolding opportunities for expansion and JOY.

I hope you will take a few moments and read just a few of his motivational stories that are provided for you, because I'm certain you will find as I did ...that you will discover cherished favorites that you will read - and tell - again and again... Click here.

Finally, a voice spoke. "Gather as many pebbles as you can. Put them in your saddlebags. Travel a day's journey, and tomorrow night will find you both glad and sad."

After having departed, the nomads shared their disappointment and anger with one another. They had expected the revelation of a great universal truth that would enable them to create wealth, health, and purpose for the world. But instead they were given a menial task that made no sense to them at all.

As they grumbled their discontent, however, the memory of their visitor's brilliance caused each one to pick up a few pebbles and deposit them in their saddlebags.

They traveled a hard day's journey, forgetting the pebbles they each carried with them. That night, while making camp, they reached into their saddlebags and discovered ...
