Dear Women Friends,
I am not making this up!
Just the other morning, my husband was telling me about what working on John Wayne "Jack" Schlatter's newly launched book, Gifts by the Side of the Road, has done for him. He was commenting on just how this book has literally "had its way with him" ... his focus, his concentration, feeling wide awake at 5 a.m. wanting to get to work each morning ... and feeling peaceful and good about himself. He ALSO said he found himself wanting to do even more to help me around the house and in the office!
I have to admit, the morning before he said all of this, I had also had the same realization about how synergistic everything had been for the past two weeks. You see, that's when we completely sold out of our first book run on Gifts by the Side of the Road in its first month out, and we were just going to turn around and issue the next print run ...
WHEN ... something "greater than ourselves" started to bring in new irresistible ideas for the book.
I'd get an idea, call Jack and say, "Hey can you write an Acknowledgment to GRANDPARENTS?" He'd say, I don't know Mary, I've never been a Grandparent by direct lineage, but then, I have been a Grandparent to many children of my adopted families." And then he'd pause, there would be a moment of silence between us and then he'd start rattling it off I AM A GRANDPARENT ... I'd say, "Hang up and write that down right now!" Next day, I'd get a new Acknowledgment/Tribute in an email.
Then the ideas for new Acknowledgment/Tributes started coming to me two and three at a time...
I'd call Jack and say, "Hey, guess what ideas I just had? " I'd give him his new assignments, and he's say he just didn't know if he could do it, pause for a few moments and then say, " ...because I can feel just how much you believe in me, I will!"
Or, he'd just start rattling off ... I AM A ______to me over the phone. A few times, he wasn't anywhere near a notepad, so I'd start typing, and we'd do it together. One that we did together was, I AM A CHILD ADVOCATE, and it has become one of my favorites! But then, to be honest, they ALL are!
We were all feeling it. This book was literally "having its way with us" ...speaking to us individually and collectively. What amazing synergy!

We finished it yesterday!
