There was a research study conducted several years ago by a psychologist writing his dissertation at the University of Miami.
He had picked a group of female grad students with the same complaint: all of their husbands were slobs, constantly leaving their clothing, dishes and sports stuff everywhere, never picking up after themselves.
For the purposes of the study they were instructed to never criticize and never instruct their husbands to pick up after themselves. If by accident the husband did pick up something, the wife was to immediately kiss and hug him. She was to do nothing else, without a word.
In less than three months, ALL of the husbands were picking up after themselves perfectly.
Positive reinforcement eliminates the need to talk about it!
