Dear Educational Professional,

The talent for getting along with other people through exercising civility and impersonal good will, which is compassion in action, cannot be over-emphasized. It has been estimated that your career and financial success is only 15 percent due to your technical ability and 85 percent to your ability to get along with people.

Dr. Paul Ekman's worldwide brain research at University of CA, San Francisco revealed that no matter what culture we live in, we are all "hard-wired" for only 6 emotions: sadness, joy, disgust, anger, fear and surprise. Why is it so important to understand this? Because it means that ALL the other emotions must be taught with patience and repetition until they are effectively learned.

When we work alongside someone who has never experienced being loved or wanted unconditionally, or has never been (kindly) taught how to lean into patience, cooperation, generosity, forgiveness, optimism, gratitude or compassion, then what is their motivation to learn how be a contributor to something larger than themselves: a community, a team?
